Conor McGregor is out $100,000 after placing a bizarre bet on the FIFA World Cup Final this evening.

Legendary two-weight UFC world champion McGregor claimed to have seen a viral tweet from 2021 by which an X user predicted the 2026 Final. The social media poster claimed to have one way or the other seen the match five years prior to it happening, and predicted it might end 3-2 to Argentina.

Unfortunately for the Irishman, it was yet one more defeat for him following his return to the octagon at UFC 329. Not only did the match end 1-0 to Spain, it also made it out of the 90 minutes as he predicted and went to extra-time.

Had Argentina managed to win the match 3-2 inside 90 minutes, Conor McGregor would have pocketed a whopping $3.6 million for his bet. Nevertheless, it was a comparatively slow-paced affair and Lionel Messi’s men hardly had as many as three shots on goal inside the game.

“My World Cup Final prediction and bet!” McGregor wrote on social media prior to the sport, alongside a video explaining his decision. “Argentina to win 3-2.

“Five 12 months ago some guy on the web said so and that’s all I needed to listen to! I’m going with him! Let’s go ‘some guy on the web’ BRING IT HOME BABY!”

Just before kick-off, he attempted to make clear with the social media user, quoting his 2021 message and asking “Bro real quick is that inside the 90mins?” When the result got here in, he tweeted: “And the winner is… Christ!”
