Rose Namajunas waiting for ‘reason’ to make UFC return after needing brutal eye surgery post-loss

The primary woman to regain a UFC championship is uncertain about her return plans.

Rose Namajunas, a two-time women’s strawweight champion on MMA’s biggest stage, has been pursuing one other divisional title for the past three years.

Quite a lot of losses have stalled her plan to challenge for Valentina Shevchenko’s flyweight gold, and essentially the most recent had some scary physical consequences.

Now, ‘Thug Rose’ is waiting for the brand new “purpose” that she must warrant one other trip to the Octagon.

Namajunas has yet to lose two fights consecutively at 125 kilos, but defeats to Manon Fiorot and Erin Blanchfield prevented her from breaking into title contention.

‘Thug Rose’ had the possibility to alter that this past January, but she once more fell short. Natalia Silva beat Namajunas at UFC 324, a fight that left the American requiring quick medical attention.

Namajunas underwent surgery because of eye pokes from Silva during their fight in Las Vegas. The damage was so bad that the 34-year-old needed to have tubes in her eyes for 3 months.

The previous strawweight queen is now able to stay up for a fighting return. But during a recent appearance on the Weighing In podcast, Namajunas said she’s awaiting a “reason” to compete, having once more slipped farther from the flyweight title.

“That’s type of why I’ve been sitting out for some time because I’m attempting to like rediscover, ‘Okay, what am I doing now?’

“Simply to be fairly transparent… the last three losses that I had… those three fights, just like the last one, I used to be told that I might get a title shot with a win. Same thing with the Manon fight, I needed to win that fight with a purpose to get the title shot. Erin Blachfield, I’m pretty sure it was the identical thing.

“So, it’s like, I got here up short in all three of those,” she continued. “And it’s like, okay, well, I’m at a degree in my life where I’m excited about like family stuff and all these items and next steps, future things.

“I do wish to compete and I still wish to fight again, but I need to make sure that that like after I’m stepping into there I’m like going for a purpose and a reason.”

Many fans have been calling for Namajunas to drop back all the way down to strawweight following Mackenzie Dern’s crowning.

But ‘Thug Rose’ continues to indicate no signs of plotting a pursuit of a 3rd title reign in that division.
