Ryan Burl was dismissed for 20 runs off 18 balls as Zimbabwe slipped to 82/6. They were eventually bowled out for 129 in 17.5 overs. Tilak Varma bowled only one over, gave away only nine runs, and picked up one wicket. It was his fifth wicket in T20I cricket.
Tilak Varma Stars With the Bat within the First Innings
Before making an impact with the ball, Tilak Varma starred with the bat in the primary innings. He played a crucial role in helping India cross the 200-run mark and post a match-winning total. Batting at No. 5, the left-hander brought up his ninth T20I half-century in only 23 balls.
He stayed unbeaten on 60 off 29 deliveries at a formidable strike rate of 206.90. His innings included five fours and three sixes, and he also shared an important 94-run stand in only 43 balls with Ishan Kishan. Tilak had faced criticism for batting too slowly and had an extraordinary series in England, where he scored 104 runs in five matches at a mean of 26 and a strike rate of 152.94.
Although he didn’t get much time to bat in the primary T20I, coming in late, he bounced back brilliantly within the second match with a match-winning knock under pressure. His innings helped India seal the series after back-to-back series defeats against Ireland and England.
