Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani opened up on the team’s performance, individual form, and strategic decisions. Nonetheless, the Delhi Capitals lost to the Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday after a top-order collapse. Furthermore, the spinners did not deliver on a surface that has significant grip as well.
Speaking on the press conference, Badani said, “We’d ideally want Kuldeep to be higher than this, but we are going to rally around him as he has been a component of this side for a lot of, a few years. I believe it’s more the case of nearly someone striking form; he hasn’t struck peak form yet and hasn’t bowled on the speeds that he would normally bowl. I believe it’s an issue of time, and we have now faith in him.”
Nonetheless, Hemang Badani also opined on whether the choice to bat first on a difficult Arun Jaitley Stadium pitch backfired. He again shared that they don’t influence the character of the pitch prepared by the curator, despite it being their home ground as well.
“We don’t have any control over the surfaces. It’s so much easier for a side to field 20 overs after which understand what the surface can be after they bat second, and that’s just about what happened. I believed the sport was lost in the primary 10 overs once we didn’t get enough; we were about 70 for five, and also you don’t wish to be 70 for five even whether it is a tricky surface. It has been a little bit of an up-and-down curve for us to grasp what we’re going to get at Delhi, which is our home. One game was a 265, but there’s little control that any side has on surfaces.”
“I don’t think I might pinpoint Axar” – Hemang Badani
While Kuldeep Yadav has struggled with the ball this season, Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel’s form has been equally concerning, especially with the bat. After one other poor outing for Axar against CSK, Badani backed the captain.
“As a side, you obviously don’t wish to be 60 for five or 50 for five; that will not be the position any side desires to be, and if we’re in that spot, the one option is to herald a batter. With Axar, I believe it’s again an issue of somebody who has played cricket at the best level, a double World Cup winner, and also you give them the religion. I don’t think I might pinpoint Axar, because it will not be one person; it’s a team, and as a side, we could have to play higher cricket,” Hemang Badani concluded.
