ENG vs IND 2026: “Eventually, you are certain to feel hurt” – Wasim Jaffer on Sanju Samson’s exclusion from the 2nd T20I

Sanju Samson

Former India cricketer turned veteran commentator Wasim Jaffer has said that irrespective of how much the management tries to elucidate the choice, it is certainly hurting after Sanju Samson’s exclusion from the 2nd T20I against England on the Emirates Old Trafford stadium in Manchester on Saturday, July 4. Having managed only six runs in his last three matches, Samson was dropped for Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made his debut on the age of 15 as well.

Speaking in regards to the decision on his YouTube channel (Wasim Jaffer Official), Jaffer said: “Due to Vaibhav Suryavanshi, we’re having this discussion. Otherwise, dropping Sanju Samson wouldn’t really have made sense. But with Vaibhav Suryavanshi within the team, Abhishek Sharma had scored two fifties, so that you couldn’t leave him out. Ishan Kishan had also been batting well.”

“So, unfortunately, the burden fell on Sanju Samson because he got out for low scores. But you realize the type of player Sanju Samson is. When he gets going, he goes on to attain a whole lot. It’s very unlucky. Irrespective of how much you are attempting to elucidate things to a player, it doesn’t really change how they feel. Eventually, you’re certain to feel hurt,” he again added.

“For those who return just three or 4 matches, we were praising him (Sanju Samson) loads, and he was even the Player of the Tournament within the World Cup. So I might not prefer to think that his profession is over. He’s a improbable player. I feel he might be waiting for his opportunity. How and when that comes, we may have to see. But I don’t wish to consider that Sanju Samson’s profession is over. By no means. He’s a improbable player,” he again stated.

Nevertheless, Wasim Jaffer also shared his views about Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who became the youngest player to debut for Team India when he featured within the 2nd T20I. He only scored 14 off 10 balls as well.

“It’s a really proud moment for Vaibhav, and for his parents, coaches, and association” – Wasim Jaffer

“It’s a really proud moment for Vaibhav, and for his parents, coaches, and association. It’s a giant thing that a boy from Bihar is playing cricket and has created a lot hype through his performances that the entire world is talking about him. Whether he plays or not, individuals are talking about him. That in itself is a big achievement. I don’t remember in recent times any cricketer being talked about this much, where everyone seems to be asking why he shouldn’t be being played and when he’ll get a probability. I truthfully can’t recall any player in recent times receiving this level of attention,” Wasim Jaffer concluded.
