Lataa Saberwal looked back on the early days of her acting profession. The actress revealed how much she earned in her first lead role. Recalling her journey to Mumbai, the actress shared that she was forged as Draupadi in Nitish Bharadwaj’s Geeta Rahasya just three days after arriving in the town. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, she admitted that being offered Rs 20,000 per 30 days in 1999 felt like a dream come true. Lataa Saberwal Recalls Landing Pivotal Role As Draupadi In Just 3 Days
When asked about payments in TV, Lataa Saberwal said, “So, fundamental yeh bhi share karti hoon ki how much I used to be paid. Luckily, mujhe bahut achhe payments mile. Jab Nitish Bharadwaj ji ne mujhe pehli baar Draupadi ke role ke liye select kiya, Mumbai aane ke teesre din hi mujhe uss show ki fundamental lead mil gayi. Geeta Rahasya Krishna ki story thi. Aur Draupadi apne perspective se Geeta narrate karti hai aur questions poochti hai. Toh woh Draupadi aur unki journey ki kahani thi. Mujhe yaad hai, selection office mein hua tha. Uss time weekly shows hote the—ek ghante ka episode, jo har Sunday aata tha.”
She continued, “Unhone mujhe kaha ki mujhe Rs 20,000 per 30 days milenge. Essential 27 saal pehle ki baat kar rahi hoon, yani 1999 ki. Rs 20,000 per 30 days sunke toh fundamental almost chakkar kha ke girne wali thi! I used to be so comfortable. Mujhe laga, ‘Itne saare paise milenge mujhe!’ Phir jab Mumbai mein rehna shuru kiya, tab pata chala ki yahan kharcha bhi bahut zyada hota hai. Yahan jitna kamao, utna hi kam padta hai. Woh realisation baad mein aaya. But yes, by the grace of God, I used to be at all times paid good amounts. And I worked with individuals who at all times paid me well.”
Geeta Rahasya (1995–1999) was a Hindi mythological television series. Nitish Bhardwaj has produced, directed, and co-written it. He’s remembered for the portrayal of Lord Krishna. The show is notable for featuring a young Irrfan Khan within the antagonistic role of Kans.
