Austin Theory says his reference to Paul Heyman stretches back long before they became aligned on WWE television.
Now one-half of the WWE World Tag Team Champions and a member of The Vision on Monday Night RAW, Theory has enjoyed a successful WWE profession that features reigns as United States Champion and Mr. Money within the Bank. Based on Theory, nonetheless, Heyman has been one among his biggest supporters since his independent wrestling days.
During an appearance on “The Early Bird Special” podcast, Theory recalled first meeting Heyman at an EVOLVE event held within the historic ECW Arena when WWE and EVOLVE partnered for a special show. He admitted that he was stunned by Heyman’s first words to him. He said,
“Me and Paul Heyman actually go way back. My whole time on the predominant roster, I’ve at all times spoken to him. He’s at all times given me great advice. He’s at all times had my back. He took me under his wing. The primary time I met Paul Heyman was after I was on the Indies, it was the primary time Evolve and the WWE did a show together within the ECW arena. Gabe Sapolsky – that’s my guy – just about told me, ‘Hey, you’re the predominant event tonight. I got a surprise for you.’ I used to be like, ‘All right, I don’t know what that’s.’ Then Paul Heyman walks in.”
“The time I met Paul Heyman, I went as much as him and said, ‘Hey, the way you doing, sir? I’m Austin.’ The very first thing he said was, ‘I’m a giant fan of your work.’ I used to be like, ‘Holy sh**.’ In order that was cool.”
“He comes as much as me somewhat later, like within the night because the show’s occurring. He goes, ‘Hey, if I’m going to introduce you tonight, what are things that I call you?’ I used to be like, ‘Wait, what?’ So he ended up doing the introduction for the match and the remainder there may be history.”
“I got to WWE and even the pandemic era of RAW, after I left NXT and went to RAW to do Seth’s group, that was all Paul Heyman as well. But I’d need to say, man, he’s at all times had my back. Even The Vision group, he wanted me in that. I used to be like, ‘Absolutely.’”
“I’d say relating to advice, there’s a number of advice, but one among my favorite things he said to me after I first got with the group was ‘Don’t F this up.’ ‘All right, you bought it.’”
