Urijah Faber reveals RAF incident with Arman Tsarukyan could have fixed a niggling injury

Urijah Faber suffered a lightweight injury before his match with Arman Tsarukyan on Saturday night, and thinks his dangerous fall from the stage might need helped him to recuperate.

Former WEC champion Faber was dominated and ultimately finished by top UFC lightweight contender Tsarukyan within the fundamental event of RAF08 on Saturday night. The pair were as a result of co-headline, but got bumped to the fundamental slot on the day when Henry Cejudo and Merab Dvalishvili’s rematch was cancelled.

And things almost turned really ugly when Tsarukyan pushed Faber out of bounds in pursuit of a takedown to finish the match. The move saw them go up to now out that they flew off the stage and Faber landed on the exposed floor of the world.

Luckily for each men, Urijah Faber and Arman Tsarukyan were completely high quality and managed to complete the match after the incident. And through an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show today, the previous bantamweight title contender actually thanked his opponent for the wild stunt.

“I’m getting thicker and sturdier, my back was actually hurt going into that,” Faber said before being showed a clip of the autumn from a unique approach and claiming that he was laughing and joking with Tsarukyan within the moment.

“Look, I like Arman to be honest, I don’t think that was personal. I feel it was him searching for clickbait, he’s just like the National Inquirer as a human being, he’s attempting to get these clicks at any risk, these young guys will do anything for the clicks.

“He desired to risk each of our livelihoods for some clicks there, he knew what he was doing and he said ‘ah let’s throw caution to the wind,’ and bless his heart. I could have gotten up and did an elbow shiver to the back of the top or b—-ed and moaned but I do know exactly what was happening.

“He’s just attempting to draw some attention to the wonderful sport of wrestling, getting himself in line and it’s all good. I landed on the cement and it literally helped my back, my back was hurt two weeks ago and I wasn’t in a position to do much training.

“But I feel he realigned it there and I didn’t even do a warm-up on the match. I did no wrestling apart from footwork and motion leading as much as that because I had slightly issue and I feel he fixed it so thanks Arman for the assistance.”
