The Carolina Hurricanes dominated their first-round series against the Ottawa Senators, executing a four-game sweep where they didn’t trail for a single minute within the 4 games. Game 4 was a chippy affair because the Senators attempted to fight their way back into the series, but Carolina ended up scoring the go-ahead goal within the third period to take the victory. The Hurricanes’ sustained run of success made NHL history as they advanced to the first round, based on Adam Vingan via X, formerly Twitter.
“The Hurricanes are one among three teams in NHL history with a series win in eight consecutive postseasons, joining the Canadiens (10 from 1984-93 & 10 from 1951-60) and Flyers (9 from 1973-81),” Vignan posted.
The Canadiens and Flyers teams from these eras are an elite group for the Hurricanes to be a part of. All three runs for those teams included Stanley Cups, which Carolina hasn’t yet completed. The Hurricanes have gotten known for being a very good team that may’t recover from the hump under Rod Brind’Amour.
While that’s becoming the narrative surrounding the team, we have not really seen them dominate a team as they did against the Senators on this series. It might be just the thing they should get their confidence up, with a possible second-round series with the Philadelphia Flyers looming.
