Lee Dixon has described Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford as an ‘Arsenal player’ – but isn’t convinced Mikel Arteta could trust him playing in his team.
After an alarming dip in form lately, Rashford sought a fresh challenge away from Old Trafford last summer, joining Barcelona on a season-long loan deal.
That move included an choice to buy for £26million will all signs initially suggesting Barcelona would activate that clause and make the arrangement everlasting.
However the Catalan giants are reluctant to trigger it and can try to negotiate one other loan deal.
Barcelona are also said to have attempted to agree a lower fee with United, something the Premier League side don’t have any intention of doing.
It leaves his club future doubtful with a return to Manchester now an actual possibility at the tip of the season.
Tottenham have been credited with interest within the England international should they avoid relegation to the Championship with there prone to be interest elsewhere back in England.
Arsenal legend Dixon is an admirer of the 28-year-old, believing his old side would profit from a fast and direct threat down the left – a position the Gunners need to strengthen this summer.
But the previous defender suggests there are elements of Rashford’s game that mean a move to north London simply wouldn’t work.
‘Being an ex-Manchester United player, Marcus Rashford to Arsenal doesn’t sit well with me because I don’t really like United.
‘But as a player, I’ve all the time been a giant fan of his,’ Dixon told BOYLE Sports, who offer Premier League odds.
‘Obviously, he dropped off his levels. What happened at the tip of his United profession was unlucky. It didn’t end particularly well. He flitted out and in of the Barcelona set-up.
‘He’s a player on his day that is totally, , he’s an absolute Arsenal player in as much as he’s got, , he’s got pace, he’s direct.
‘Nevertheless, I’m undecided you’ll be able to trust him, so I believe Arsenal could do higher.’
