John Cena made a significant announcement at WWE Backlash 2026, unveiling a brand-new show, championship, and competition format.
Cena revealed that the “John Cena Classic,” a tournament that can pit WWE major roster stars against talent from WWE NXT. The winner of the tournament can be crowned the inaugural Cena Classic Champion and awarded the newly introduced Cena Classic Championship.
In a novel twist, the championship winner will ultimately be determined by a fan vote. Meaning a superstar could still walk away with the title even after losing matches throughout the tournament, so long as they receive enough support from the WWE Universe.
WWE has not yet announced when the John Cena Classic will officially happen.
