Chennai Super Kings wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel etched his name into the record books by smashing the joint-fastest fifty in Indian Premier League history, reaching the landmark in just 13 balls during CSK’s clash against Lucknow Super Giants on the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, May 10.
Walking in at No. 3 after Sanju Samson’s dismissal within the powerplay, Urvil launched a direct counterattack, hammering 4 sixes in his first five deliveries. The correct-hander continued his aggressive approach throughout the powerplay, entertaining the gang with a flurry of boundaries and sixes.
The teen raced to 41 runs in only nine balls and looked set to interrupt the all-time record outright. Nonetheless, after moving to 49 off 12 deliveries, he took a single against Mohammad Shami within the seventh over to equal Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record for the fastest IPL fifty.
Following the milestone, Urvil Patel celebrated emotionally by removing his helmet, folding his hands, and pulling out a note from his pocket. As cameras zoomed in, the message on it read, “That is for you, Papa,” together with one other heartfelt line written in Gujarati.

The No. 3 batter found it difficult to take care of the identical momentum after completing his fifty and was unable to time the ball as freely as before. He received a lifeline within the ninth over when Digvesh Singh Rathi dropped his catch off Prince Yadav’s bowling. Nonetheless, the missed opportunity didn’t prove costly as Shahbaz Ahmed dismissed him in the next over.
Despite the wicket, Chennai Super Kings remain in complete control of the chase, reaching 128/2 in 10 overs while pursuing a goal of 204 runs.
