It’s secure to say that WrestleMania 42 will go down as a mixed bag for WWE; though the event was a financial success overall, the buildup was marred by ticket sales that paled compared to WrestleMania 41 a 12 months earlier. And while many aspects have been cited for the decline, amongst the most important was WWE’s decision to maintain WrestleMania in Las Vegas, Nevada for a second straight 12 months, even pivoting from the unique site of Recent Orleans, Louisiana to accomplish that.
Previously, it had been thought that the choice to maintain WrestleMania in Vegas got here right down to funds, with Vegas offering WWE a deal the promotion couldn’t pass up, while WWE President Nick Khan also took responsibility. But in an interview with “Power Players” prior to WrestleMania, TKO executive Mark Shapiro suggested that it was his idea. And while he later said he was satisfied with the choice, Shapiro admitted that it could not have been the most effective move for WWE in hindsight.
“Possibly it is a mistake I made because Vegas was so huge last 12 months and such a winner for our fans and the product that I said to Nick Khan, who runs the WWE, ‘We have got to return to Vegas next 12 months,'” Shapiro said. “‘We have now to maneuver Recent Orleans down the road, and we have got to come back back to Vegas.’ Las Vegas, I need not inform you, is the mecca for nice events. An increasing number of events are moving there.
“Music has residencies. And an increasing number of sports teams, as evidence by the NHL and shortly to be Major League Baseball, are popping up there with teams to come back. Obviously, the Raiders are an enormous success in Las Vegas. So absolutely no regrets on going back there, however the only reason you are hearing ‘Hey, it isn’t what it was from last 12 months,’ is we’re not benefiting from the primary mover experience.”
