Steam Deck Prices Just Went Up Massively

Stop me in the event you’ve heard this already, but a video game console just went up in price. Following Sony’s, Microsoft’s, and Nintendo’s leads, Valve just raised the associated fee of their beloved line of PC-based handhelds, the Steam Deck.

And it is not a modest hike, either. It’s within the lots of range. There is not any way Valve itself is thrilled with this move, just as Nintendo’s own president issued a proper apology for bumping up the Switch 2’s cost of entry. But here we’re, telling this tale, yet again.

Tough Times

The 512GB OLED version just sprung from the already-pricey $549 USD to the far pricier $789. And in the event you’re in search of a 1TB model, you sure won’t be spending $649 USD anymore, because that’d make it a relative steal. Nope, it’s $949. If tax is involved—and it almost at all times is—you are north of a grand now. A dollar a gigabyte, I assume.

There was no advance notice of this alteration. Wario64’s above tweet was made via the identical way that others are abruptly noticing; namely, by taking a look at Steam Deck’s store page and wincing. Each models were out-of-stock when the non-announcement was not made, but they’ve units available again as of this writing. It’ll be interesting to see how much of a damper this puts on Valve’s bottom line, and by interesting, I mean depressing.
