TV actress Shilpa Shinde has opened up about one of the controversial chapters of her profession. Best known for taking part in Angoori Bhabhi within the hit TV serial Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai, Shilpa left the show in 2016 at the height of its popularity after a highly publicised fallout with the producers. The dispute led to legal battles, industry-wide controversy and allegations against producer Sanjay Kohli.
Shilpa Shinde Admits S*xual Harassment Allegations Against Sanjay Kohli Were FALSE
Now, in a conversation with Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa on their podcast, Shilpa Shinde revisited the difficult period and made a startling claim. The actress admitted that the s*xual harassment allegations she had levelled against the producer weren’t true and said she filed the criticism while facing immense skilled and emotional pressure.
Reflecting on the controversy and the perception people formed about her through the years, Shilpa said walking away from a successful show was one in all the hardest decisions of her life. “People have formed their very own opinions about me through the years. Some called me crazy, while others thought I used to be silly for the choices I made. But I need to say that it takes courage to walk away from something whenever you’re at the height of your popularity and tell yourself, ‘I don’t wish to do that anymore.’ Not many individuals could make that selection,” the actress revealed.
She added, “At the moment, the thought was principally to scare me. I used to be being asked to sign a contract that will stop me from working anywhere else. It was a whole bond designed to make sure that the actor remained under control and couldn’t negotiate for more cash. But this wasn’t my first show, so I wasn’t willing to conform to those terms.”
Shilpa Shinde Revisits Her Explosive Exit From Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai
In keeping with Shilpa, tensions escalated when the makers allegedly tried to hurry up her remaining work on the show. She said, “I told them, ‘I don’t must work anywhere else. Where do I even have the time?’ That was never the difficulty. The difficulty was being controlled and never being allowed to make my very own decisions. Then suddenly, they wrapped up almost ten episodes’ price of my shoot in only two days.”
She revealed how the circumstances unravelled, “The identical individuals who wouldn’t even give me leave on non-shooting days suddenly told me, ‘You don’t have a shoot from tomorrow.’ I asked why, but there was no proper answer. Soon after that, news began appearing in every single place that ‘Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain’s Angoori is not any longer a part of the show.’ I felt it was all being done to intimidate me.”
The actress further claimed that she faced direct threats when she refused to sign the exclusive contract. She said, “I felt really hurt by the best way things unfolded. I used to be asked whether I desired to proceed with the show. And I made it clear that I used to be not willing to sign an exclusive contract. I used to be then told very directly, ‘When you don’t wish to sign it, then leave the show.’ I used to be completely speechless. I couldn’t imagine someone could say that to me so casually. The actress added, “I replied, ‘If that’s what you would like, then I won’t do the show.’ That’s after I was told, ‘Then you definately won’t have the opportunity to do anything. I’ll be sure you sit at home.’ Hearing that was shocking for me. It felt like I used to be being pressured into accepting terms that I wasn’t comfortable with.”
Actress Alleges She Faced Pressure From Industry Bodies
Shilpa also criticised industry bodies and alleged that actors often have little power in such situations. She said, “That’s why I call the producers’ association a ‘white-collar mafia,’ and I can still say that today. I used to be even told by the artists’ association CINTAA that I might be banned. I remember asking, ‘How can an artists’ association ban an artist?’ A producers’ association can resolve that they don’t wish to work with someone, or a channel can select to not solid an actor, but how can an association meant to represent artists take such a stand against an artist?” She felt there was a monopoly. The producers and associations worked in a way that gave them control over actors.
Shilpa Shinde Admits The S*xual Harassment Allegations Were “Not True”
Probably the most shocking moment of the conversation got here when Shilpa spoke in regards to the s*xual harassment criticism she filed against producer Sanjay Kohli following her exit from the show. “At the moment, I filed a s*xual harassment criticism against my producer because I felt I had no other option left. Looking back, I still feel it was an enormous step. All doors were closed on me. I believed there was no other technique to get out of the situation. Whenever you go to file an FIR, the police ask you to offer specific details and allegations. Coming from a law background, I used to be aware of the method. Today, I need to say that the allegations I made weren’t true. I’m admitting this for the primary time.”
Shilpa revealed that the matter eventually reached a settlement. Following that, she received her pending dues and moved on from the dispute. “As a part of the settlement, there was an understanding that neither side would speak in regards to the issue within the media. Nonetheless, after greater than a decade, I feel comfortable talking about it. Despite every thing that happened, I ultimately worked with them again. In actual fact, our relationship today may be very cordial. Even in spite of everything these years, we share a great relationship. We worked together after 11 years in Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai.”
Most recently, she returned to Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai, marking a surprising full-circle moment in her journey with the sitcom that after defined one in all the most important controversies of her profession.
