Veteran commentator Aakash Chopra has stated that former India captain MS Dhoni has taught people the art of letting go. He also said that Dhoni retired from Tests when he was about to succeed in 100 games and 5,000 runs within the longest format. Dhoni also retired from the longer format of the sport after the third game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2014-15. He scored 4,876 runs at a median of 38.09 in 90 Tests.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, ‘Aakash Chopra,’ he said, “If you’ve to learn anything, there can’t be a greater example than Dhoni. The best thing in life is to carry on to something you get and never let it go. That’s what all of us do. Probably the most difficult thing is to let go. It becomes even tougher to let go if you happen to are a superstar.”
“Nevertheless, he let it go easily. He was the Test captain. Nobody was saying anything to him, but in the midst of the series, he said, ‘I’m done.’ He had played 90 Test matches. He had reached very near 5,000 runs. Neither the considered 100 Tests nor scoring 5,000 Test runs got here to his mind,” he further stated.
Meanwhile, Aakash Chopra also shared that Rohit Sharma has also given everyone a life lesson and led by example.
‘He has taught that whatever he wants his team to do, he would try this himself first’ – Aakash Chopra on Rohit Sharma
“Don’t do as I say, do as I do. It’s said that leaders lead by example. They lead from the front, and we get to learn that from Rohit Sharma. He has taught that whatever he wants his team to do, he would try this himself first. I’ll put the team before me, after which, robotically, your complete team goes to follow the trail,” he said.
“He did that in white-ball cricket. He said it’s not about Rohit Sharma anymore. It’s about where I need to take Indian cricket. He said he would walk the talk. Only talk used to occur before that. He said he can be the brand ambassador,” Aakash Chopra concluded.
