The Irishman is back at OKTAGON 90 on June 20 to defend the heavyweight belt against Kasim Aras after committing himself to the promotion with a brand new contract.

In a recent interview with Bloody Elbow, Fleury spoke about receiving what he described as a little bit of an “insulting” contract offer from the UFC following his win over Martin Buday.

While competing for the highest promotion in the game is a goal most fighters can be aiming for, Fleury has readjusted his focus to understand what he has in front of him already.

“Whenever you take a look at it, actually following that path involves probably fighting on an undercard in Kansas for f— all money or you understand, fighting within the Apex in front of little or no fans… It might take something very, very special to get me to trade this,” he said.

Proving himself by beating someone like Buday who had quite a lot of success within the UFC was an enormous moment for Fleury.

He admits that while OKTAGON probably wanted his opponent to win that fight, each parties have done quite a bit for one another and he’s been given some big opportunities.

Becoming a star within the promotion due to his performances in big title fights that bring quite a lot of atmosphere meant that while Fleury would have liked to tick the UFC off the list, the grass isn’t all the time greener on the opposite side.

“It’s sort of like, well, you continue to don’t see the worth in me. That’s what it felt like… In a way, I didn’t want to provide all that up either because I worked rattling hard to get to that place,” Fleury added. “But, it was like, in case you want me to provide that up, you’ve got to are available with something great and it was nowhere near that.”
