Comedian Pranit More became embroiled in controversy earlier this month after an audience member named Himanshu Jangra made insensitive comments about women during his show. The 23-year-old man claimed he went on a date with a girl, paid Rs 370 for a plate of chicken biryani, and believed he deserved a “return” on his investment. He later issued an apology and deleted his social media accounts. Himanshu Jangra also appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) in reference to the continued Rs 370 biryani remark controversy.

Pranit also apologized, stating, ‘comments made by the audience member don’t reflect my views’. The NCW took suo motu cognisance of the comment that was made. Many videos shared on X show Pranit and Himanshu Jangra appeared before the NCW regarding the Rs 370 biryani remark controversy.
Pranit wore a mask as he approached the NCW office. Several media representatives tried to query him and seek his comments, however the comedian remained silent and proceeded contained in the premises. Individually, comedian Madhur Virli appeared over alleged derogatory remarks against women made during a stand-up performance. He, too, wore a face mask and left the premises without commenting on the matter.

About The Hearing
The commission had scheduled a hearing within the case on June 22 at 4 PM. In a press note, the ladies’s council expressed serious concern concerning the jokes being made. They trivialized the conduct and presented it as entertainment. PTI reported, citing sources, that the NCW rejected their apology. In the course of the proceedings, chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar expressed profound anguish over such demeaning content being promoted. She also questioned why is that this normalized within the name of comedy.
She emphasized that while the commission supports creative freedom, freedom of speech doesn’t extend to normalizing violations of ladies’s bodily autonomy or turning heinous crimes like rape and murder into entertainment material.

Pranit, who laughed in the intervening time and uploaded the clip on social media, later issued an apology.
“I’ve seen the criticism regarding a recent crowdwork clip. The comments made by the audience member don’t reflect my views. Looking back, I must have challenged the remark as an alternative of laughing and moving on,” a part of Pranit’s statement read.
