Aakash Chopra praises Yashasvi Jaiswal’s hundred in IND vs AFG 2026 third ODI

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Former India player turned commentator Aakash Chopra has applauded Yashasvi Jaiswal for scoring a match-winning century within the third ODI against Afghanistan. He added that Jaiswal gets limited opportunities, which makes one feel that the star left-handed opener isn’t a component of the team’s ODI plans.

Nonetheless, India bowled out Afghanistan for 218 in Chennai on Saturday, June 20. Jaiswal smashed an unbeaten 110 off 86 balls within the chase as India achieved the goal with nine wickets and 21.2 overs in hand.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, ‘Aakash Chopra,’ he said, “Yashasvi Jaiswal is getting so few opportunities that you’re feeling he will not be a part of the scheme of things. He comes as a substitute plan. He comes as a backup option, but each time he comes, he says he plays thoroughly and deserves a spot here.”

“There may be pressure. You grow to be a component of the Indian team at this level after six months, and one doesn’t know whether he’ll play in the subsequent six months or not. He can be seen playing in Tests, that’s true, but he will not be a part of ODI and T20 cricket. He became a component of this team only because Virat Kohli got injured. He got a probability to play within the second match because Nitish Kumar Reddy got injured,” he again shared.

“Nitish got fit, but they still said they might play him by resting KL Rahul, and he did the job. He got three matches within the last series, but he got only two here, and has struck a century in one in every of them. He had struck a century within the last match of the previous series,” Chopra stated.

“He’s a correct player, and he’s at all times reminding us that he must be invested in a bit of more” – Aakash Chopra on Yashasvi Jaiswal

Nonetheless, Aakash Chopra noted that Yashasvi Jaiswal proved that he must be invested in, but aslo said that many other players are still waiting for his or her opportunities as well.

“He’s a correct player, and he’s at all times reminding us that he must be invested in a bit of more. Nonetheless, that’s the opposite side of the story of Indian cricket. He still gets opportunities here and there, but then you definitely start considering that Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad are also there, and you’ll start giving Vaibhav Suryavanshi probabilities at some stage, and Sanju Samson also doesn’t play ODI cricket,” he said.

“Keep hitting each time you get a chance. Yashasvi Jaiswal needs to inform himself repeatedly that each time the door opens, they need to not look beyond him. Yashasvi, keep scoring runs like this. For a way long will you stay out? Luck changes routinely persistently, and you may end up in the midst of an ICC event,” he concluded.
