For greater than 15 years, Sheamus has built one of the crucial decorated careers in WWE history, but there’s still one championship missing from his resume — the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
The Celtic Warrior has made no secret of his desire to finally capture the title and complete the feat of becoming an Ultimate Grand Slam Champion. Despite quite a few opportunities through the years, the Intercontinental Championship has remained just out of reach, with Sheamus often referring to his pursuit as his “IC curse.”
In a recent social media post, Sheamus reminded fans that the championship remains to be firmly on his mind while poking fun at his long-running quest. Using ChatGPT, he asked who holds the record for essentially the most unsuccessful attempts to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
The AI-generated response claimed that Sheamus holds the excellence, stating that despite competing in quite a few Intercontinental Championship matches throughout his profession, he has “not captured the belt yet, making him the standout for essentially the most failed attempts.”
Whether such a statistic is officially tracked is unclear, and the post gave the impression to be more of a lighthearted joke than a verified record. Still, it highlights Sheamus’ determination to finally end his long chase for the celebrated title.
Although the Intercontinental Championship has eluded him, Sheamus has achieved nearly all the things else possible in WWE. His impressive list of accolades includes multiple world championship reigns, United States Championship and Tag Team Championship victories, in addition to wins within the Royal Rumble, King of the Ring, and Money within the Bank, making the Intercontinental Title the lone missing piece of an already Hall of Fame-worthy profession.
