Former Team India player Sadagoppan Ramesh urged the management to contemplate veteran batter KL Rahul for selection within the T20I squad after India’s poor show within the third T20I against England in Nottingham on July 7. Chasing 202 for victory, the Indian team were bowled out for an embarrassing 76 in 11.4 overs, suffering a 125-run loss.
He said on his Instagram handle after the third England T20I: “The following T20 World Cup can be on potentially difficult pitches in Australia and Latest Zealand. Considering that, it’s paramount India add a batter able to handling high-quality fast bowlers. Considering in that direction, the primary name that mechanically involves mind is KL Rahul. He responded to the criticisms around his strike rate along with his performance on this IPL. He can be one in all only three players to have ever scored a 150.”
“India need batters able to playing guys like Archer in Australian conditions and likewise ones that may handle crisis. Just slogging and aiming for less than 6s and 4s will end in more such 70 and 80 all-outs. That’s the reason batters like KL Rahul have to be considered,” he again added.
Sadagoppan Ramesh also believes KL Rahul’s improved batting within the IPL have to be rewarded with a spot within the Indian T20I team, especially given the likely conditions on the 2028 T20 World Cup as well. KL Rahul enjoyed one in all his best IPL seasons this 12 months, scoring 593 runs at a median of 45.61 and a strike rate of 174.41 in 14 matches as well.
“You’ll be able to’t consider the IPL just for certain players. KL Rahul must also atleast be within the radar. Also, for a team that appears a lot at matchups with the ball, India don’t appear to care about matchups with the bat. The lineup is stuffed with left-handers and so India must add a couple of right-handers. Purely due to where the subsequent T20 World goes to be played, KL Rahul needs to be within the radar,” concluded Ramesh.
