Suspect Named After 2 Men Were Injured in Kroger Shooting

A suspect has been named after two men were critically injured in a shooting that took place within a Kroger outside of Houston, Texas.

Deputies with Harris County Constable Precinct 4 responded to reports of an lively shooter on the Kroger positioned on Cypresswood Drive around 2:50 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, based on a social media post shared by Constable Mark Herman.

Herman said that deputies arrived on the scene lower than two minutes after they received the report and so they quickly took a suspect into custody. A preliminary investigation has led authorities to consider that the shooting stemmed from “a domestic disturbance between each males.”

Herman took to Facebook on the morning of Thursday, July 16, to discover the suspect as Kaden Ausbrooks.

Ausbrooks is currently receiving medical treatment at an area hospital and is being guarded by Precinct 4 Deputies. Once he’s released from the hospital, he shall be booked into the Harris County Jail.

Police have charged Ausbrooks with first-degree felony offense of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury. It isn’t currently clear if he has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following his arrest.

“We’re grateful that no additional individuals were injured during this incident. The rapid response of our deputies, together with the help of our partner law enforcement agencies, allowed officers to quickly secure the scene, provide access to emergency medical look after those injured, and conduct the investigation mandatory to file charges against the alleged shooter,” Herman said in a press release. “We appreciate the coordinated response of all personnel and agencies who assisted during this critical incident.”

Herman previously said that after the male victim was shot, he was airlifted from the scene in serious condition. Meanwhile, the male suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the neck and was transported to a close-by hospital in an ambulance.

Family Violence investigators with the constable’s office are continuing to analyze the circumstances of the shooting.

Before he shared the newest update, Herman said in an earlier social media post on July 15 that witnesses reported seeing a Black male wearing a yellow shirt and black pants as he fired a weapon within the shop.

Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Captain Juan Flores also told reporters that officers found two men affected by gunshot wounds after they reported to the scene, per ABC News.

Police said that one among the boys walked out of the shop after he was shot and was then transported to a hospital. Meanwhile, the opposite remained within the Kroger with multiple gunshot wounds.

Flores said that each men were listed as being in critical condition on the evening of July 15. Meanwhile, no bystanders were injured through the incident.

Following the incident, Kroger released a press release addressing what happened within the shop. “Out of respect for the continuing police investigation, we’re unable to release information presently. We appreciate your understanding,” a rep for the shop said, per ABC 6.
