DoH logs 1,532 COVID-19 cases, 70% decline from last yr

The Philippines’ confirmed COVID-19 cases were at 1,532 as of July, down 70% in comparison with the identical period last yr, in accordance with the Department of Health (DoH) on Friday, adding that it continues to observe the disease through its regional counterparts.

In a release, the DoH said a complete of 1,532 confirmed cases were logged from Jan. 4 to July 11, a pointy decline from the 5,070 cases reported through the same period in 2025.

The health department said it continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation through its regional offices and native government partners. It also continues to conduct disease surveillance and response mechanisms nationwide.

“COVID-19 may present without symptoms or as a gentle to severe respiratory illness,” DoH said.

Among the many common symptoms are fever, chills, sore throat, cough, a runny or clogged nose, headache, fatigue, muscle aches, shortness of breath, and nausea. Symptoms can also include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and lack of or changes in taste or smell.

Although cases remain low, the DoH continues to induce the general public to practice easy health habits to stop the spread of the virus and other respiratory illnesses. These include handwashing, covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and maintaining proper hygiene.

“Individuals experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness are advised to hunt medical consultation at the closest medical institution or healthcare facility and follow appropriate health measures to stop further transmission,” the DoH said.

As of Jan. 8, the country had reported 4.1 million COVID-19 cases, with total deaths standing at 66,864. During its peak, the disease forced the country to undergo various types of community quarantine for over a yr and overwhelmed the general public health system. — Edg Adrian A. Eva
