Three teenagers were taken to the hospital after an incident wherein a automotive was driven at people in north County Dublin.

Gardaí said that they had responded to a public order incident at Harbour Road, Skerries, on Saturday night.

A spokesperson said: ‘At roughly 9.30pm numerous youths gathered and a fight broke out.

‘Throughout the course of the incident, a automotive drove at plenty of people.’

Gardaí said three teenagers, two female and one male, were taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment with ‘non-life threatening injuries’.

Fianna Fáil Senator Lorraine Clifford-Lee said she was a family friend of considered one of the young women injured within the incident.

In an announcement, she said: ‘I’m deeply shocked and saddened by the horrific incident that took place on Harbour Road, Skerries, yesterday evening.

‘There is totally no place for this type of violence in our community.

‘My thoughts are along with her, the others injured, and all of their families. Thankfully, she is now home from the hospital. I wish each of them a full and speedy recovery.’

Ms Clifford-Lee said ‘tensions have been constructing’ in the world following ‘a major increase within the variety of young people’ visiting Skerries.

She said she had spoken to Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan concerning the incident and asked for added garda resources to be deployed ‘as soon as possible’.
