Cain Velasquez predicts ‘special’ Islam Makhachev will proceed his dominance vs Ian Machado Garry

Islam Makhachev has the prospect to further boost his legacy on MMA’s biggest stage this August.

Last trip, the 34-year-old became the eleventh fighter to win UFC titles across two divisions by adding the welterweight championship to his résumé.

Nine months later, Makhachev will face Ian Machado Garry in his first defense of the crown at 170 kilos, as they headline the UFC 330 event in Philadelphia.

The Irishman is confident of upsetting the chances on the Xfinity Mobile Arena, but Cain Velasquez is expecting more Dagestani domination.

Cain Velasquez talks up ‘special athlete’ Islam Makhachev ahead of his UFC 330 title defense

Velasquez, who’s regarded by many because the skill-for-skill best heavyweight in UFC history, trained on the American Kickboxing Academy during his profession as an lively fighter.

“He’s a special variety of athlete, as everyone knows,” Velasquez said.

“He’s one among those guys at the head of the game. I check with Javier (Mendez) on a regular basis, and Islam and people guys are at all times doing great. They’re in great hands.

“I see Islam just continuing to do what he’s been doing, and that’s winning impressively,” he continued. “He’s any person who has mastered all facets of MMA.”

Garry will look to avoid the form of fate that befell Jack Della Maddalena when Makhachev moved as much as make his welterweight debut last November.

After a lengthy reign at lightweight, the Dagestani dominated the Australian together with his wrestling for five rounds at Madison Square Garden.
