Belal Muhammad explains why he kicked ‘coward’ Colby Covington in RAF press conference brawl

Belal Muhammad couldn’t keep calm when he was being antagonised by Colby Covington.

This past Saturday, Belal Muhammad returned to the Real American Freestyle Wrestling mats for just the second time, when he took on Ben Askren within the co-main event.

The matchup received quite a whole lot of criticism considering just last 12 months Askren was in a coma for several days and underwent a double lung transplant.

Despite that, Muhammad went on to win their match via a choice, and Askren emotionally retired after what was considered one of the best comebacks in sporting history.

Muhammad explains post-event brawl with Colby Covington

Following his match, ‘Remember The Name’ ended up in a brawl with Colby Covington on the press conference.

Covington was coming off the back of his Cruiserweight Crossover title win against Arman Tsarukyan within the foremost event.

Within the construct as much as RAF 11, Covington hurled some abusive words at the previous UFC welterweight champion, which resulted in them coming to blows after their respective matches on Saturday.

And now, Muhammad has explained his side of the brawl and why he kicked out at ‘Chaos’ Covington.

“You only get uninterested in the guy when all he does is talk,” Muhammad told MMAJunkie.

“After which it gets to the purpose where you’re like, if he says something reckless then I’m just gonna see red and I’m gonna go up and clock him… The guy is a low-life, he’s said stuff about Leon (Edwards’) dad, I’m like if he says anything about my family, then I’m gonna must hurt you.”

Shortly after their brawl, RAF announced that Covington would defend his title against him at RAF 12, but not long after, Covington called off that match.

“You see the coward now going out in interviews saying he’s not gonna wrestle me so that you never know what’s gonna occur. I’ve been saying it for years he’s been running from me and has been ducking me without end.

“He’s gonna attempt to hold onto that belt for so long as possible and if he loses to me, he’s got nothing left, he’s a no one,” Belal continued.

At this point, it’s unclear whether Covington’s word is final and the match is officially called off.

Nonetheless, the previous UFC interim champion is a shareholder within the promotion and sure has a say in who he faces on the mat.
