Travis Scott has built a remarkable profession since launching in 2008, but he says there’s still one milestone he hopes to achieve. In a brand new interview, the “Rodeo” rapper reflected on earning multiple Grammy nominations without ever taking home the coveted gold gramophone. While some artists have distanced themselves from the awards show, Scott says winning a Grammy would still be a meaningful achievement.
Speaking with Variety, Scott, 35, reflected on his latest track, “Once I’m Home,” possibly being a contender for Best Original Song on the Academy Awards. He created the track for the recent film “The Odyssey.”
“I still need a Grammy, but I might like to take home an Oscar,” Scott said. “That’d be cool.” And while not winning a Grammy isn’t causing Scott to lose any sleep, he said winning one remains to be a serious goal of his.
“It’s not why I do what I do,” he said. “I prefer to set goals, and I just want to realize them. I noticed the people who get them at all times have that like, ‘It doesn’t matter’ [attitude]. To me, the award represents something, and to realize that might be amazing.”
Other Artists Have Distanced Themselves From The Grammys
Other artists have distanced themselves from the Grammys over time, including The Weeknd, who, in 2020, slammed the Recording Academy as “corrupt” after his project “After Hours” was snubbed from the nominations list.
“The Grammys remain corrupt,” the musician tweeted on the time. “You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…”
Shortly after, the Grammys’ CEO Harvey Mason Jr. issued a press release saying he, too, was surprised to see The Weeknd wasn’t nominated for any awards and said he could “empathize” with how the singer was feeling.
“I used to be surprised and may empathize with what he’s feeling. His music this yr was excellent, and his contributions to the music community and broader world are worthy of everyone’s admiration,” he said.
Drake And Teyana Taylor Also Call Out The Grammys
Teyana Taylor also called out the Grammys that yr with a post of her own, saying, “Y’all was higher off just saying best MALE R&B ALBUM cause all I see is d–k on this category.”
The nominees for the Best R&B Album that yr were Ant Clemons, Giveon, Luke James, John Legend, and Gregory Porter.
Drake also chimed in following the chatter and told artists to stop tying their value to winning awards.
“I feel we must always stop allowing ourselves to be shocked yearly by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the very best type of recognition may now not matter to the artists that exist now and those that come after,” he said, per E! News. “It’s like a relative you retain expecting to repair up but they only can’t change their ways.”
Travis Scott Has A Role In ‘The Odyssey’
While Scott still waits for a Grammy win, the rapper is riding the high of being in Christopher Nolan’s latest film, “The Odyssey.”
The “SICK MODE” rapper recently appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and recalled the moment Nolan called him with the chance.
“My phone went off, and it just said, ‘Chris.’ And I’m pondering, like, ‘Okay, I don’t know what that is about. Possibly he desires to go to a show?’” he recalled.
Scott said he was initially confused, reminding Nolan that he makes music. Nonetheless, his conversation with the movie director eventually led him to sign on for the project.
“I actually enjoy his time. I’m really inspired by him; he’s an actual mentor of mine outside of this. And so I’m like, ‘Yo, whatever you’re down with, I’m down. Nonetheless, it goes, I’m with it,’” Scott said about his appearance within the movie.

Nolan spoke with Time Magazine in regards to the film and revealed why he selected the hitmaker to be in it.
“I solid him because I desired to nod towards the concept that this story has been handed down as oral poetry, which is analogous to rap,” Nolan said.
