Representing India is every cricketer’s ultimate dream, and for Ashok Sharma, achieving it was the culmination of years of perseverance and his family’s sacrifices. The young pacer realised that dream when he made his international debut within the opening T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare.
Ashok received his maiden India cap from bowling coach Sunil Joshi ahead of the match. It marked a memorable milestone for the Rajasthan fast bowler, who earned his opportunity after consistently performing in domestic cricket and impressing together with his pace over the past few seasons.

Ahead of Ashok Sharma’s debut, stand-in head coach VVS Laxman addressed the squad and reminded the young pacer of the pride and responsibility that include representing India.
“We all know Ashok goes to make his international debut, and we discussed that it’s a matter of great honour. Representing the country, all of your exertions, and all of your performances were rewarded by this chance.”
Ashok Sharma Reveals Brother Gave Up His Dream for Him
Ashok Sharma’s journey to the Indian team began in Rampura, a small village on the outskirts of Jaipur, where his family faced financial hardships. His father worked as a newspaper deliveryman to support the household. His elder brother, Akshay, also aspired to develop into a cricketer.
Nonetheless, with limited resources, the family couldn’t afford to back each sons. Akshay made the difficult decision to offer up his own cricketing ambitions so Ashok could attend the inter-district Under-16 trials. That selfless sacrifice proved to be a turning point, laying the muse for Ashok’s rise to the best level of the sport.
“I dedicate this moment to my elder brother”
After receiving his maiden India cap, an emotional Ashok admitted that realising his childhood dream of representing the country still felt surreal.
“It’s very special. The thing for which I used to be working hard, hopefully today it’s fulfilled. It’s a dream. Till now it’s a dream, sir, whatever it was. Even now it’s a dream that I wore the cap of India, and my dream has come true. I dedicate this moment to my elder brother,” added an emotional Ashok.
