Indian cricket has welcomed many young talents, but fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi is creating history at a remarkably early age. The dynamic batter achieved a serious milestone by becoming the youngest-ever player to attain a half-century in international cricket across all formats.
Playing against Zimbabwe in the primary T20 International (T20I) on the Harare Sports Club, Suryavanshi scored 50 runs off just 19 balls at a rare strike rate of 263.15. His explosive innings included 4 boundaries and 4 sixes, helping India easily chase down the goal of 126 runs.
At 15 years and 118 days, Suryavanshi surpassed Nepal’s Kushal Malla (15 years, 340 days) because the youngest international half-centurion. He also broke Gibraltar’s Louis Bruce’s record (16 years, 56 days) for the youngest T20I half-centurion.
Amongst Indian cricketers, he broke Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record because the youngest international half-centurion (16 years, 213 days) and Rohit Sharma’s record in T20Is (20 years, 143 days).
“A Very Special Moment”: Vaibhav Suryavanshi Reflects on India Debut
In a post-match interview shared by the BCCI, Vaibhav Suryavanshi expressed deep gratitude for his national debut:
“To represent India is everyone’s dream, and it’s a really special moment for me.”

Playing on the Harare Sports Club held personal meaning for the young batter. Just 4 months prior, he scored 175 off 80 balls on the identical ground in the course of the Under-19 World Cup final to guide India to victory. Speaking in regards to the venue, he noted:
“It’s a really memorable ground for me. Just 4 months back, we played the Under-19 World Cup final and won here, so it’s a really special venue. I attempted to make use of what I learned during that tournament and apply it to this match.”
This milestone comes shortly after his successful Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign with the Rajasthan Royals, where he won the Orange Cap by scoring 776 runs in a single season. Despite his fast-rising profession, Sooryavanshi maintains a disciplined approach to his sport:
“I’ll back the practice that I even have done thus far and back my game. Whatever contribution I could make to assist the team, I’ll give my full effort.”
