Battlefield 6’s first naval season is live as of yesterday, and many of the news is genuinely good: a significant latest map, boats, waves that really affect gameplay, and a roadmap that carries through September. The less welcome news landed today, and it lands squarely on GeForce RTX 50-series owners who were most looking forward to Tsuru Reef.
Game Update 1.4.1.0 deployed on July 21 at 12:00 UTC, launching Season 4: Pacific Front across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S concurrently. The centerpiece is Tsuru Reef, a brand new large-scale Pacific island chain map built specifically for combined arms amphibious warfare. The map ships with a Dynamic Wave System: waves generated in real time affect boat handling, player aim while aboard vessels, and line of sight, creating moment-to-moment tactical variation that older Frostbite water simulation didn’t attempt. Two latest naval vehicles and three latest weapons (the EF88, BROD 3, and VSSM) round out the launch payload.
Season 4 runs in three phases: Pacific Front today through August 17, a Top Gun crossover on August 18 that brings back Wake Island with aircraft carrier combat and a Battlefield 6 x Top Gun: Carrier Strike multiplayer mode, and a Tidal Strike finale on September 15 with a Deep Six collection event. The update is free for all existing Battlefield 6 owners.
That’s the excellent news. The less excellent news is that GeForce RTX 50-series GPUs are crashing on Battlefield 6 maps with large bodies of water (Cough, Tsuru Reef). Electronic Arts has confirmed the difficulty and is currently recommending that affected RTX 50 owners roll back to GeForce driver 596.49 while the corporate and NVIDIA investigate the basis cause. The hotfix NVIDIA released yesterday, version 610.82, targets separate stability issues in Halo: Campaign Evolved and Path of Exile 2 and doesn’t address the Battlefield 6 water map crash.
The Dynamic Wave System is precisely the type of technical ambition that makes Battlefield compelling as a PC platform. Physics-driven water combat creates emergent tactical moments that a static environment simply cannot: waves as cover, waves disrupting aim, waves separating squads from one another mid-engagement. The Top Gun crossover in August, which puts large fighter jets and aircraft carriers into the identical map as infantry, extends the combined-arms logic to a scale the franchise hasn’t attempted in the present engine. Each of those updates land to existing Battlefield 6 owners at no additional cost.
RTX 50 owners: roll back to 596.49 for now and check for driver updates every day. Everyone else: the water is nice, go for a swim. Season 4’s Pacific Front is a genuinely ambitious seasonal update, and the wave system alone makes Tsuru Reef value revisiting the sport for.
