Jeff Cobb Thought He’d Be Jeff Cobb In WWE

Jeff Cobb’s WWE run began with a serious moment at Backlash 2025, where he made his surprise debut by helping Jacob Fatu successfully retain the USA Championship.

After arriving in WWE, Cobb was repackaged as JC Mateo and aligned himself with Solo Sikoa’s faction, which eventually became often known as The MFTs.

During a recent appearance on the “Instinct Culture” podcast, Cobb revealed that he initially believed that he would give you the option to proceed wrestling under his well-known Jeff Cobb ring name after signing with WWE. As an alternative, the corporate introduced him to fans under the brand new JC Mateo identity, marking a fresh chapter in his profession. He said,

“I assumed I used to be going to be Jeff Cobb because Michael Cole called me that. ‘For those who called me Jeff Cobb for the entire world to listen to, and next week it’s a random change, that’s a bit of weird.’ I don’t understand it. I get they need to regulate every thing. You need to use my name, that’s totally high quality. I don’t mind. The truth is, use my name. I attempted so hard. The week leading as much as Backlash, I used to be like, ‘My name is Jeff. Cobb is gonna kill you.’ They didn’t wish to go together with that. I get it, but I don’t understand why they said it on commentary, but the subsequent week it was totally different. It’s whatever.”

Throughout the same podcast, Cobb revealed that he desired to wrestle more in WWE. He said,

“I don’t wish to sound like a bitter ex-employee. Could I even have done more? Yes. Could they’ve given me more stuff to do? Yes. At the identical time, ‘maximize your minutes.’ I attempted to try this. The primary couple of months, I used to be more, ‘Yes, whatever you wish from me.’ The last couple of months I used to be like, ‘Can I do more? Can I talk more?’ If I don’t show my personality, then I’m just Bodyguard #2. I desired to do more, wrestle more. That’s what you signed me for, based off my wrestling. Recent Japan, we don’t do an excessive amount of character stuff or vignettes. ‘You hired me for wrestling. Let me wrestle. Put me on Major Event. Put me in dark matches.’ ‘We’ll see.’”

Cobb was released by WWE in April. He’s currently a free agent.
