Jasprit Bumrah Cleared For Sri Lanka Tests In Major Boost For India

India have received a big boost ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, with premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah being declared fit for selection. Although Bumrah was included within the Test squad, his participation trusted receiving final fitness clearance.

The speedster had sustained an impact injury through the recent three-match ODI series against England, which ruled him out of the third ODI at Lord’s in London. Nonetheless, he has now been cleared to return to competitive motion.

Bumrah Cleared After Fitness Test

Jasprit Bumrah has successfully passed the fitness tests conducted on the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. In accordance with PTI, the star pacer has met all of the required fitness standards and is anticipated to be available for each Tests against Sri Lanka.

“Jasprit Bumrah has recovered from his impact injury. He has cleared the fitness Tests mandated by the COE. Hopefully he will likely be available for each games as he’s integral to the team’s plans,” a senior BCCI official said on condition of anonymity.

While Jasprit Bumrah has received fitness clearance, opener Sai Sudharsan continues to be awaiting approval from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence as he continues his recovery from injury.

India Need Higher Performances In Test Cricket

India have been hit by a series of injury setbacks ahead of the Test series. Fast bowler Harshit Rana and all-rounder Nitish Reddy have each been ruled out as a result of hamstring and quadriceps injuries, respectively.

Meanwhile, Washington Sundar has been sidelined for the opening Test due to a hamstring injury, with Saransh Jain named as his alternative within the squad. A series victory in Sri Lanka will likely be vital for India as they appear to strengthen their position within the World Test Championship standings.

Led by Shubman Gill, the team must win seven of their remaining nine Tests to remain within the race for a spot in the ultimate. Managing injuries will even be key, with India aiming to field their strongest possible XI for the rest of the campaign.

The 2-match Test series begins in Galle on August 15, with the second Test scheduled to be played in Colombo from August 23.
