Star India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has began preparing for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. The 28-year-old is currently in Ranchi, where he’s training with former India captain MS Dhoni ahead of the red-ball project.
India’s tour of Sri Lanka gets underway on August 15, with the opening Test scheduled to be played on the Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15 to 19. The second and final Test will happen on the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo from August 23 to 27.
On Friday, former India spinner Shahbaz Nadeem shared an image from a gym session on Instagram featuring himself alongside Dhoni and Pant. Nadeem, who represented India in two Test matches during his skilled profession, captioned the post:
“Two of the perfect finishers of Indian cricket @rishabpant and @mahi7781 bhai.”

Rishabh Pant stays India’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batter in Test cricket and is predicted to play an important role in the course of the upcoming two-match away series against Sri Lanka.
The left-hander last featured in competitive cricket during India’s one-off Test against Afghanistan on the Recent PCA Stadium in Mullanpur in June 2026. He impressed with a half-century in the primary innings against Hashmatullah Shahidi’s side.
Rishabh Pant’s Test Numbers
Rishabh Pant has represented India in 50 Test matches, scoring 3,557 runs in 87 innings. His record includes eight centuries and 19 fifties, making him the Indian wicketkeeper with essentially the most a whole bunch in Test cricket.
The upcoming Sri Lanka series also gives Pant the chance to attain a significant milestone. He’s just three sixes away from becoming the primary Indian batter to hit 100 sixes in Test cricket, having already struck 97.
Only three players in Test history—Adam Gilchrist, Brendon McCullum, and Ben Stokes—have crossed the 100-sixes mark within the longest format.
