Carlos Prates believes that a win in Perth will earn him a welterweight title shot within the near future.

Carlos Prates doesn’t need to move to lightweight but is confident he could do it

If he secures his second consecutive win over a former champion on Saturday night, Carlos Prates is confident he’ll get a title shot, but Ilia Topuria’s plans could impact this.

Prates commented on this in a recent interview and joked that if ‘El Matador’ does move up, he’ll go the alternative way and challenge for the lightweight gold.

‘The Nightmare’ went on to elucidate that he believes he could actually compete at 155 kilos if he desired to.

“I can do 155,” he told MMA Fighting. “In fact I can. Normally I’m like 85 kilos, 84, so I can do lightweight. But, I’m kidding. I don’t need to do an excessive amount of weight-reduction plan any more but yeah, let’s see.”

The face offs between Prates and Jack Della Maddalena ahead of Saturday night showed that the Brazilian has a big height advantage over his opponent.

He explained that while that is true, he expects ‘JDM’ to be stronger than him contained in the Octagon.

Prates said that having competed at featherweight and light-weight prior to now, he’s used to being rather a lot taller than his opponents so that is nothing recent to him.
