Suriya, Trisha Krishnan’s Karuppu Releases Today After Show Cancellation

Trisha Krishnan and Suriya’s highly anticipated Tamil film Karuppu finally releases in theatres today after facing delays and the cancellation of shows across Tamil Nadu on May 14, as confirmed by the makers. Despite Chief Minister Vijay’s approval for special 9 am screenings, the film couldn’t be released yesterday as a result of financial issues.

Expressing gratitude for the patience of fans and offering an apology, Dream Warrior Pictures posted a heartfelt message on X. It stated, “There are some journeys that test not only time, but the guts itself. To every one who waited for Karuppu, who kept asking in regards to the film, who never stopped believing in us even through the silence and delays — we owe you an apology, and more importantly, our deepest gratitude.”

The post continued, “We all know this wait was painful. We all know a lot of you held onto this film with a lot love and expectation. Every delay weighed heavily on us too. But through every setback, it was your support, your messages, your faith, and your limitless love that kept this dream alive. Today, with full hearts and tears of gratitude, we finally say: #Karuppu is releasing worldwide!”

The post further added, “This film carries our blood, sweat, sleepless nights, struggles, and emotions. It just isn’t just our story anymore — it belongs to each one in every of you who stood beside us through this journey. Thanks for waiting. Thanks for believing. See you in theatres!”

Suriya’s Post

Suriya and director RJ Balaji also shared messages on social media, assuring fans that the film’s release was happening today. Suriya’s transient note read, “Dear all… Thanks for being with us!”

Why The Film Didn’t Release Yesterday

Vishnu Kamal, the film’s distributor, explained on his X handle that the shows were cancelled as a result of financial issues from the producers’ side. He stated, “Attributable to financial issues from the producers’ side, the 9:00 a.m. (Screen 1) and 9:30 a.m. (Screen 2) Shows of #Karuppu have been cancelled. Refunds for all bookings were initiated at midnight and shall be processed shortly.”

He added, “We’re currently awaiting clarity regarding the 12:00 p.m. and 12:45 p.m. noon shows. Let’s hope for the perfect.” Shortly after, he posted an update confirming that the noon and matinee shows can be cancelled, and refunds can be processed soon.

The message read, “Just received a call from the distributor @SakthiFilmFctry informing us that #Karuppu’s release is now expected only from this evening. Hence, the noon & matinee shows shall be cancelled, and refunds shall be initiated shortly.”

He concluded with, “This is really heartbreaking for everybody who had been eagerly waiting to look at the film today. We completely understand the frustration and share the identical sadness with you all. Hoping things get sorted soon and the wait ends on a positive note.”

Chain Of Events

Several multiplex chains in Tamil Nadu also announced the cancellation of shows via their social media accounts. Tensions escalated when reports emerged that Karuppu was screened illegally in Mumbai, Pune, and Varanasi by Qube without the producer’s approval. SR Prabhu, co-owner of Dream Warrior Pictures, together with the corporate’s legal team, issued a public notice to stop piracy issues just like what affected Vijay’s Jana Nayagan before its release. Dream Warrior Pictures also shared a legal notice on their social media, warning fans against sharing or circulating leaked clips from Karuppu.
