NLEX pulls away from Terrafirma, secures playoff berth

MANILA, Philippines–NLEX seized solo control of second place within the PBA Commissioner’s Cup with a 95-85 win over Terrafirma Dyip on Saturday at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The Road Warriors improved to 7-2 and secured a quarterfinals berth, moving a half a game ahead of Barangay Ginebra (6-2), which is in a four-game winning streak.

NLEX broke the sport open within the third quarter, unloading 34 points while limiting Terrafirma to only nine to construct a 70-56 lead heading into the fourth.

“Once you’re playing teams like Terrafirma, their efforts are one hundred percent each game,” coach NLEX Jong Uichico.

“They don’t care about their standings, the moment they enter the sport, their goal is to win and provides their easiest. That’s why we didn’t take them evenly.”

As usual, Robert Bolick led the Road Warriors with an all-around game of 20 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three blocks.

“We just stayed aggressive because we knew we would have liked this wan bad. We just gave it our greatest,” said Bolick.

Helping him was Cady Lalanne, who registered a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. LJay Gonzales and JB Bahio scored 16 each while Tony Semerad pitched in 14 points.

Mav Ahanmisi paced Terrafirma with 22 points, however the Dyip dropped their sixth straight game to fall to 3-6. His brother Jerick added 13, while Mubashar Ali had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
