Zuffa Boxing opens its UK run with a predominant event that places two contenders near a title opportunity. Can Billam-Smith hold his ground against a pressure puncher who comes forward and throws with bad intentions, or does Rozicki break through and force his name into the highest end of the division?
Billam-Smith (21-2, 13 KOs) knows the venue and knows work a 12-round fight in front of that crowd. At his best, he tightens the space, works the body, and makes opponents fight at a pace they don’t need.
Rozicki (21-1-1, 20 KOs) brings a unique look. He walks in, lets his hands go, and forces exchanges. Eighteen of his knockouts have come inside three rounds, which tells you the whole lot about his approach. He throws to harm, and he’ll test Billam-Smith’s chin early.
Rozicki hasn’t been tested against the identical caliber of fighters as Billam-Smith. While Billam-Smith has shared the ring with Lawrence Okolie, Richard Riakporhe, and “Zurdo” Ramirez, Rozicki’s biggest step up was Oscar Rivas at Bridgerweight, which he lost.
The Canadian Rozicki is a blood and guts fighter who tends to eat three punches to land one. Against a technically sound, physically strong fighter like Billam-Smith, that style can appear to be a recipe for a one-sided beatdown relatively than a competitive fight.
Chris Billam-Smith said, “I’m coming home. It is a huge opportunity for me back in front of my amazing supporters. Sky Sports know just how incredible these fight nights are in Bournemouth and this one will likely be no different.”
Ryan Rozicki added, “It’s a tricky fight, and that’s exactly what I wanted after I signed with Zuffa Boxing. I do know what he brings, and I respect that. But he hasn’t been in there with someone like me. I’m focused on my work, taking it day-to-day, and I’ll be ready on fight night. The fans are going to get an actual fight.”
Billam-Smith has to indicate he can handle pressure without giving rounds away, while Rozicki has to prove his power holds up against a fighter who can take him the gap.
The result will determine who moves forward within the cruiserweight title picture.
