While Chimaev has admitted he needs to complete Strickland to avoid fans labelling him as boring, a former teammate of the challenger believes he may very well be the one to get the stoppage in Newark.

Sam Alvey believes Sean Strickland won’t play it as protected as he has up to now attributable to his dislike of Khamzat Chimaev
While the stress between Sean Strickland and Khamzat Chimaev has definitely grown in recent weeks, the American has strongly disliked his next opponent for a while.
UFC veteran Sam Alvey, who has a fight coming up on May 8, maintains a friendship with the middleweight title challenger after previously training with him at Team Quest.
Alvey recently told Bloody Elbow that he thinks Strickland could finish Chimaev at UFC 328, and his long-held dislike of the defending champion could play an element on this.
“I’m taking Strickland and I believe it may very well be by finish, but of course decision. But, Strickland could get that finish. The cardio is the factor,” he said. “Sean will get taken down, he’ll get taken down for 2 rounds and he’ll get back up for 2 rounds. In round three, Sean will still be tremendous, Chimaev goes to be drained.
“Sean goes to start out landing, he’s going to win rounds three, 4, and five and if Sean hits him in the appropriate place, he could get that finish… Sean isn’t going to play it as protected as he has up to now because he really doesn’t like Chimaev. He hasn’t liked Chimaev for a very long time. Sean and I are buddies, he hasn’t liked Chimaev for like ever.”
Alvey is currently preparing to face bodybuilder Alexander “The Freak” in an exhibition bout following a social media feud between them.
‘Smilin’ Sam was asked in a follow-up query how long he’s known about Strickland’s dislike of his next opponent, which took him back to when the 2 men who will headline UFC 328 first trained together.
“Even then I used to be talking to Sean and he said, ‘Chimaev, he’s only a bully. He goes in and he tries to do his rounds with guys he’s obviously higher than. The young pros which are removed from the UFC.’ He said that’s who he trains with and Sean said it drives him nuts because he doesn’t just train with these guys, he tries to harm these guys.”
Alvey went on to argue that, while Strickland may be intense in sparring, he doesn’t attempt to hurt individuals who aren’t on his level unless it’s agreed ahead of time that they’ll go for broke.
The 39-year-old might be streaming his bout with “The Freak” at ‘Mayhem De Mayo’ via his YouTube channel, with a PPV stream also available via Tens of millions.
