Nintendo Shuts Down Super Animal Royale YouTube Loophole On Switch 2

Unlike its competitors, the Switch 2 doesn’t have streaming apps like Netflix and Disney Plus. Though it has incorporated streaming apps into its consoles before, they have been missing for some time, and nobody really knows why. Whatever the explanation, Nintendo really doesn’t want you watching stuff in your Switch 2 after it swiftly put a stop to a workaround people were using to access YouTube.

The loophole comes via a free game called Super Animal Royale, which you’ll be able to download on the Switch 2’s eShop. Once downloaded, you only open the sport, create an account, and click on the video on the right-hand side of the screen. It is a YouTube video, so when you access it, you should utilize the positioning’s search bar to look at whatever you want.

The one big caveat is that the videos are incredibly low quality, maxing out at 360p. On the intense side, some who’ve used the loophole claim it’s effectively an ad-free option to watch YouTube videos, as, though the ads appear, you may just quickly scrub through them.

It Looks Like Nintendo Has Already Blocked Access To Super Animal Royale’s YouTube

The opposite downsides include not having the ability to sign into your individual YouTube account, and the largest one among all, Nintendo appears to have already slammed this particular window of opportunity shut. While the incredibly popular Reddit thread above detailing the workaround didn’t catch Nintendo’s eye, it might appear that the strategy being covered by mainstream games media has done enough to tug the studio’s focus away from its big Star Fox reveal.

Mere hours after Dexerto reported on the Super Animal Royale YouTube workaround, there have been claims by some who had been using it that the strategy is not any longer viable. When clicking the video that may previously take them to YouTube, they’re being met with an error code. Still price a try because the game is free – and really pretty fun – as you never know, but do not get your hopes up.

As for why Nintendo is so insistent on its consoles getting used for games and games only, like a lot of the studio’s odd decisions, that continues to be a mystery. There was a time when you would watch Netflix in your Wii U and even the Nintendo 3DS – legitimately via an app, not using some 360p loophole – nevertheless it never got here to the Switch. All signs point to that remaining the case on the Switch 2.
