John Cena Diagnosed With Rare Eye Condition

John Cena is opening up about discovering that he had a rare eye condition after initially brushing off the symptoms as a part of getting older.

Speaking with PEOPLE, Cena revealed that he began experiencing persistent irritation in his eyes but assumed that it was nothing serious at first. He said,

“I had plenty of redness and itchiness, and each occasionally, waking up with eye crusties and stuff. At the identical time, given my age — I’m 49 now — my vision was going a bit of bit, so I just figured it was par for the course. But because my vision was going, I needed to see if I needed glasses or prescriptions.”

Cena admitted that he postpone visiting a physician for a while, convincing himself that the symptoms were likely attributable to “lights,” “spending way an excessive amount of time on my screen,” or just “old age.” Eventually, he decided to get his eyes checked, which led to a diagnosis of Demodex blepharitis. Cena said,

“Demodex blepharitis, which I didn’t even know existed.”

Cena encouraged others not to disregard similar symptoms and stressed the importance of standard eye exams. He said,

“I like to recommend that everyone do the identical. An everyday eye checkup is just as essential as taking good care of your teeth or the rest,” he emphasized. “The examination was easy. It’s definitely a part of an everyday eye exam, and the diagnosis was easy. Now, I still need my readers, but I don’t have that redness, that itchiness and positively not waking up with the crusties.”
