Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir answered the press conference after the Indian team suffered a humiliating defeat against England within the third T20I. After India were bundled out for just 76 runs chasing a goal of 202, questions were there over the management’s decision to drop Sanju Samson. Addressing the media after the match, Gambhir said that there was absolute clarity on the subject however the conversation couldn’t be made public.
“The very first thing is that relating to the clarity Sanju Samson needed, he has been provided that from my side. That’s a conversation strictly between the player and the top coach. That conversation isn’t going to return outside,” Gambhir said within the press conference on Tuesday.
“Regarding Sanju, we’re very clear. What he has done for India has been phenomenal, and sometimes you simply have to take a look at the shape of a certain player. There is no such thing as a hard and fast rule that he cannot make a comeback on this series,” he further added.
Gambhir also stated that international cricket isn’t about personnel, but team combination. And, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was brought into the side since the management believed within the opening combination of him and Abhishek Sharma as well.
“International cricket is about results, so whatever we feel is the perfect combination to present us that result, we play that combination and that playing XI. I’ve all the time been a giant believer that everybody must earn their place and the best to play for India,” he stated.
“Regarding adaptability, obviously we haven’t adapted well. That’s the truth, be it Ireland or England. If we had adapted well or played higher cricket, we probably wouldn’t have lost 4 games in a row,” he concluded.
