Although Kandi Burruss’ divorce from her husband, Todd Tucker, was between them, her daughter, Riley, says it has been difficult to navigate. In a brand new interview, the “Next Gen NYC” star opened up about how the demise of her parents’ relationship has affected not only her but in addition other people near her, including her younger siblings, Ace and Blaze.
Speaking with Talia Parkinson-Jones on “Today on Sirius XM,” the Bravo star said dealing along with her parents’ divorce has been harder than some people may even realize.
“Loads of people forget the undeniable fact that yes, a divorce happens between two people, nevertheless it affects greater than just those two people,” Riley said, adding that it’s been “really hard” for her to get through.
In accordance with the 23-year-old, she learned her parents were divorcing while she was filming season 2 of “Next Gen NYC,” which is currently airing on Bravo, and said it’s been a “12 months of adapting” to her recent normal.
“It’s tough at times; it’s easy at times,” she said. “It’s confusing. I’m still learning, truthfully.”
What Has Riley Burruss Learned About Her Mother During Her Divorce From Tucker?
Riley explained that while the divorce has been difficult for everybody involved, including her younger siblings, Ace and Blaze, she’s learned far more about her mother through the process.
“I’ve learned from my mom that there are a number of things that she protects in herself and the way strong she is, how courageous [she is],” Riley said about her mom, who first appeared on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” in 2008 before departing in February 2024.
“Because all of these things I didn’t even know. She wants to guard me essentially the most she will be able to. So with the ability to do this on your children is just a robust thing,” she continued.
Kandi Burruss Announced Her Plans To Separate From Tucker After BravoCon 2025
For many who could also be unfamiliar, Kandi revealed that she was separating from Tucker shortly after BravoCon 2025. While mourning the top of their 11-year marriage, Kandi said that she was looking forward to starting over.
“I’m moving into a brand new chapter, pouring into my work, my family, and my very own growth. I’m grateful to everyone who supported us throughout the years, and I ask for privacy, grace, and understanding as we navigate this transition with our family,” she said.
Despite their split, Kandi gave Tucker an unexpected shout-out through the massive fan convention, thanking the filmmaker and producer for sticking by her side through the messiest moments.
How Did Kandi Move Following Her Divorce From Tucker?
Shortly after announcing her divorce from Tucker, Kandi took on the role of Angélique within the Broadway jukebox musical, “& Juliet.” In accordance with The Blast, Burruss was greater than excited for the chance, stating that it took her out of her head and allowed her to live within the moment.
Within the musical, Kandi’s character sings a plethora of Max Martin hits, including Pink’s “F-ckin Perfect,” a song she said gave her the strength to maneuver forward through the difficult journey.
“I’m all the time in my head, doubting myself — though I assume it could look to other people like I never have doubts. But people just see the shiny a part of the coin, right?” she said. “You don’t see the opposite side where it’s type of dull. It’s type of like, ‘Oh my God, I don’t know if that is what I’m alleged to be doing?’ So I’m really hearing those words now.”

While Kandi’s divorce surprised some, others appeared to expect it, on condition that the truth star and her ex-husband feuded during their Bravo wedding special over their prenuptial agreement. As their relationship continued, they bumped heads on episodes of “RHOA” about parenting, scheduling, and their shared businesses.
Despite that, Kandi previously said that she wasn’t living her life with any regrets. “I don’t don’t have any regrets about my marriage. I feel like we had an excellent marriage. It was great while it was great. I don’t have any negative thing to say about my marriage or Todd, really. I just feel prefer it didn’t work,” she said.
