The outpouring of grief has been intensified by the undeniable fact that Neill had recently shared encouraging news about his health. Earlier this 12 months, the actor revealed that scans showed no evidence of cancer following years of treatment for a rare type of blood cancer.

During an interview with Australia’s Channel Seven, Neill explained that traditional chemotherapy had eventually stopped working, leaving him facing an uncertain future. “I used to be at a loss and it looked like I used to be on the way in which out,” he recalled.

Just weeks before his death, Neill was seen having fun with an evening out on the 2026 Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame Awards in Sydney. The beloved actor appeared in a smiling selfie shared to Instagram on June 11 alongside Australian singer and actress Kate Ceberano, who was being honored throughout the ceremony.
