Virat Kohli returned to ODI motion during India’s ongoing tour of England after missing the previous three-match series against Afghanistan with a hamstring injury. Nevertheless, his comeback was short-lived as he was trapped lbw by Jofra Archer for five runs off six deliveries.

Despite Kohli’s failure, India registered a cushty six-wicket win. Shubman Gill led the chase with 80 off 75 balls before retiring hurt with cramps, while Axar Patel (57* off 52) and Washington Sundar (52* off 63) remained unbeaten with half-centuries to guide the visitors to the 259-run goal in 45.2 overs.

“Happens After A Long Gap”: Rayudu On Kohli’s Dismissal

Former India batter Ambati Rayudu believes Virat Kohli’s early dismissal in the primary ODI was a results of returning to international cricket after a lengthy break. Kohli missed a full delivery and was trapped lbw, but Rayudu feels the veteran batter will regain his rhythm with more game time.

Speaking on Sony Sports Network, Rayudu said: “It happens at times whenever you come to play international cricket after a protracted gap, or should you come to play against extra pace. Your vision is at all times on the length. You miss the fuller ball at times. When he plays a little bit cricket, he’ll hit this ball easily through midwicket. Similar to Shubman Gill hit a 4, Virat Kohli can even be seen hitting that.”

India and England will face off within the second ODI at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Thursday, July 16.
