Vaibhav Suryavanshi said he was “overwhelmed” by the messages and desires he received after making his historic India debut on Saturday. At 15 years and 99 days old, he became the youngest cricketer to play for India, breaking the long-standing record of Sachin Tendulkar, who made his debut at 16 years and 205 days.
The young batter made a brilliant begin to his international profession, hitting two sixes before being stumped for 14 runs.
“Overwhelmed by all of the messages,” Sooryavanshi posted on his Instagram stories. “Thanks to everyone of my well-wishers and seniors on your constant love and support. I’m truly grateful for the chance to represent my country, and I’ll at all times try to present my best for my team each time. Thanks for every thing, everyone.”
Earlier, the opening batter shared an Instagram post, saying he was living his dream after receiving his first India cap.
“Living a dream all of us saw together. Thanks to everyone who continues to support me and stand by me through my ups and downs. Grateful,” he wrote.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Record IPL Season Earns India Call-Up
Vaibhav Suryavanshi received his first India call-up after an excellent IPL 2026 season with Rajasthan Royals, where he scored 776 runs to win the Orange Cap. In doing so, he became the youngest player to say the award, surpassing the previous record held by Sai Sudharsan.
Despite his impressive form, the teenager didn’t get a game during India’s two-match T20I series in Ireland, which the visitors lost 0-2. Whilst calls for his debut grew louder, the team management continued to back the opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson.
Nonetheless, after Samson recorded one other low rating in the primary T20I at Chester-le-Street, his fourth successive failure, India brought Sooryavanshi into the playing XI for the second match, with the wicketkeeper-batter making way. Despite the change, India suffered a four-wicket defeat as England took a 1-0 lead within the five-match T20I series.
