Jon Jones has zero interest in entering into the ring with Oleksandr Usyk – but that doesn’t mean a fight is totally off the table.

Legendary two-division UFC champion Jones was surprisingly named last month as one among the fighters Usyk desires to face in his first big US headliner and potential retirement fight. The Ukrainian even surrendered his belts as a way to allow him to explore names that aren’t necessarily atop the division.

Unfortunately for Usyk, Jones is well aware of his limitations within the boxing game. As a substitute, he has suggested that the two-division undisputed champion come over to the octagon, where they may meet in a ‘true fight’.

Jon Jones responds to Oleksandr Usyk fight rumours

After Oleksandr Usyk decided to vacate his world heavyweight titles, there have been two names listed as top contenders for his final fight. Deontay Wilder has long been one he wanted, and Jon Jones emerged as a possible opponent despite never having a boxing match in his life.

Speaking with The Ring Magazine, Jones explained that he wasn’t keen on just boxing and as an alternative suggested that the pair fight in MMA. “Usyk is Usyk, man, he’s one among absolutely the GOATs of heavyweight boxing,” Jones explained.

“I also am aware that he does wrestling and that wrestling has been a heavy a part of his training for a few years which might be why he’s so dominant within the clinch. If he would really like to check his total combat skills, I might oblige in that.

“But to handicap myself by only using my hands shouldn’t be the world that I come from. So out of all of the heavyweight boxers, I do see Usyk as having the best potential of creating it competitive but I’m no boxer.

“I don’t really consider Usyk to be an entire fighter. I feel the world knows what would occur if we were locked in the identical room.”
